Sony started to take pre-orders For SmartEyeglas
Where one fails, someone else will take the place and try again. After Google said that they are postponing Google Glass, someone else raised their hands to take the lead in smart glasses industry. Sony wants to grab the opportunity and the company already started to take orders on their SmartEyeglass.
Developer Edition SED-E1 of SmartEyeglass is the first set to go on a sale. They will be on sale from March in Japan, Germany, UK and the US. The prize for the glasses is set for $840 (100,000 yen, 670 Euro, £520) and you can already pre-order SmartEyeglass.
Smart glasses are very similar to normal glasses. But in the lenses they have transparent screen, so you are able to see features like notifications or emails right in front of your eyes. If you pair this glasses with your phone, you will also see that information about the apps in your phone. The display information is, however, only in the green colour and the battery lasts about 2 hours and 30 minutes.
The design of SmartEyeglass is a little bit unpractical and chunky. The weight is 77-gram (2.7-ounce) and I don’t think that it will be comfortable for long wear. Inside the chunky body of the SmartEyeglass the manufacturer managed to squeeze accelerometer, gyroscope, ambient light sensor, and a camera with resolution of 3 megapixels.
Another thing, that might raise more questions about the practicality of the glasses is small wire, which connects the remote control with SmartEyeglass. It is connected permanently, while Google Glass is wireless. The remote control has built in speaker, touch sensor and battery. The system in glassed is linked to your phone via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.
[sc:ad-text]Without a doubt Google set a very high standard with Google Glass and (so far) it looks like that Sony is not going to be real threat. If the failure of Google Glass showed us something, it was bad releasing time, unfinished product and high price. It will be interesting to see how many people will show interest in SmartEyeglass from Sony.
